why not try racing?

Dinghy and Cruiser racing is held on Saturdays & Sundays (tide permitting), with special events on bank holidays and a Club Week in August. Racing is also held during Cadet Week.

For 2026 we are trying a new format, the Grand Prix ('GP') series. The goal of the GP series is to encourage participation in more sailing events across the year by more members. The idea is that as well as the individual event prizes, participation in the series will also attract points towards an annual series. This will give an incentive to do as many events in the series as possible.

Our racing programme offers handicap racing and some dinghy class racing. There are 'short courses' for newer, less confident racers including our cadets. Our Cruiser racers also support the local clubs’ joint racing (BJRC) programme with all‑day races down river. Scheduled Open Events are on our racing programme. Contact Rob Carver, the Hon. Sailing Secretary, for further information.

We have Class Captains who are the first point of contact for members interested in Cruiser Racing, the Fast Handicap Fleets, Foilers and Windsurfers, the Medium Handicap & Lasers, Fireballs, Wayfarers, Short Course (includes Mirrors & Toppers),  Optimists, and Sprites (the Club's own class).

Safety cover is provided during organised Club racing. All regular racers are expected to do a minimum of 3 Race Box and/or Patrol Boat Duties per year.
