Reid Scott incorporating the Beastie Tour
Friday 30th August to Sunday 1st September
Reid Scott is a series of races held over three days. We plan to run two races on Friday, two on Saturday and three on Sunday. It is open to Cadets and Junior members: All entrants need to be at least 8 years old, and less than 25 years old on 1st September 2024. All those who wish to enter must be confident river sailors with their own boats (For BSC sailors this means you were in Tango or MG training groups at cadet week).
We anticipate that there will be the following classes:
Subject to demand and the availablity of coaches, we may run seperate coached regatta fleets in the Optimist and Topper / RS Tera fleets; and/or provide on the water coaching in both regatta and main fleets.
The Sunday of the Reid Scott will form part of the Beastie Tour, a series of events for youth sailors at RCYC, RHYC, Dabchicks and BSC. We welcome visitors who are competing in the Beastie Tour, or others who want to come and enjoy the B.S.C. hospitality on all three days of the Reid Scott. Races on Sunday will count towards both the Reid Scott and the Beastie.
For results to qualify towards the Beastie tour, the following requirements apply:
- Under 19 years old on 1st September 2024
- Entered in one of the following boats:
-
- Optimist
- RS Feva
- RS Tera
- ILCA 4 / Laser 4.7
Results of boats that are ineligible will be removed from the overall results for the purposes of calculating results for the Beastie tour.
There is no need to register online for this event, you can just turn up on the day. However if you can pre-register it will be very helpful - it will allow us to buy the right number of trophies! It will also be very useful to know if you are able to help out as a volunteer: as always we need adults to help this event run smoothly; we need people to help launch and recover boats, we need a bridge team, and we need crews for the safety boats.
Entry fee for visitors: £20 per boat (regardless of whether they are doing the Beastie, or the full Reid Scott). Payable online in advance or at registration. BSC club members do not need to pay. All boats must sign on to race each day, even if they are registered.
Overnight camping is permitted on the BSC site on Friday and Saturday evenings.
Registration will open from 08:00 on Friday 30th, and there will be a briefing at 08:30 in the lower deck.
On Sunday 1st registration will open for the Beastie event at 9am, and there will be a briefing at 1015 in the lower deck.
After racing on Saturday evening there will be 'bring your own meat' BBQ on the patio and a disco in the cadet room.
Formal notice of race can be found here.
