Website Privacy Policy 2022

This privacy policy lets you know how this website collects and uses personally identifiable information, such as your name, address, phone numbers, email address, boat information and, for members, information about yourself and your family. We collect this information when you apply for membership or register for an event. We manage your personal data in accordance with current UK Data Protection legislation and aim to be compliant with the new EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) from May 2018. This policy may be revised now the UK has left the EU on 31st January 2020 and changes in UK data policy are announced. 

This information is used to conduct the business of the club. It is not used, shared with or sold to other organisations except

  • To our service providers* as required to operate the website and the club;
  • To law enforcement agencies, in emergencies or where we are legally obliged to do so
  • When we have your express permission.

*We partner with service providers whose privacy and security policies are compliant with the industry standards. The data that we collect from you may be transferred to, and stored at, a destination outside the European Economic Area (“EEA"). It may also be processed by staff operating outside the EEA who work for one of our suppliers. Such staff maybe engaged in, among other things, the processing of your payment details and the provision of support services. By submitting your data, you agree to this transfer, storing or processing. We will take all steps reasonably necessary to ensure that your data is treated securely and in accordance with this privacy policy.

You may view, change and update your personal information by editing your profile (which is your BSC Membership account) when logged in to your account via this website.

Some items of your personal information are visible to other Club Members when logged into their accounts on the website, but not to non-Members; for example, the Membership Directory. There are further privacy options available within your profile.

When you make payments online using your credit card or debit card account you will be asked for your card information to be provided to the payment clearing company. We do not store that payment card information on our website, nor do we have access to it. The same applies if you pay using your PayPal account.

When you visit this website, cookies may be placed on your computer by our site hosting software or a third party. To log into this website as a Member or an Administrator you need to enable cookies. Most browsers will do this by default.

We may record your computer’s IP address when your visit this site, for the prevention of spam, and to track when you receive and read email communications from us.

We may include certain ‘widgets’ (eg social share buttons) on some of our web pages. The third parties that own these widgets may have access to information about your browsing on these pages, and may place cookies on your computer or device. You may wish to review privacy statements at the third party site, such as social media platforms where you have an account, to determine how these third parties collect and treat such information, as their policies may be different to ours.

Photographs or Videos included on this site have been taken by Club Members and their Guests during the various activities which take place at the Club. They are used on this site to inform and for the enjoyment of other Members. They are also used on this site and in other publicity materials to help give potential members an idea of what goes on at our Club, that is, for marketing the Club to prospective members. For this reason, Members and Non-Members participating in Club activities and events are asked to acknowledge that they may be photographed or videoed as part of these activities. They are also asked to grant permission to Blackwater Sailing Club Ltd to use any or all photos for the purposes described above, including publication on the website and Club Social media pages. If you object to the use of a specific photograph of you on this website the Blackwater Sailing Club will do its best to remove the photo concerned.

This policy is effective 1 December 2017. Material changes in the policy will be posted on the Privacy Policy page of our website and if significant will be emailed to all currently registered users of the website.
