We receive enquiries about our weather station and setup, so it is explained here, together with details of the sites that we provide data feeds to.

The station is a Davies Vantage Pro 2 which is located on the roof of the sailing club.  This isn't ideal as it has to contend with the effect of the shore and club building.  It is also too high to be accurate for the met office data feeds.  The station is wirelessly connected to a PC in the clubhouse which runs Weather Display software (http://www.weather-display.com/ for more details).  This collects the data from the Vantage pro 2 every 3 seconds (which is one reason for using the Davies Vantage Pro) and as well as recording the data it transfers it to the BSC website every 3 seconds for the Weather Display Live page.  This is a Flash based page (so it will not run on iPads).  For the iPad users, and any other browser capable of rendering html5, we use the Steel Gauges (http://wiki.sandaysoft.com/a/SteelSeries_Gauges for more details.

To present the records in a good format we use the Cumulus software (http://sandaysoft.com/products/cumulus).

The two weather station software systems both run on the same PC by using a clever utility called VirtualVP from SoftWX (http://www.softwx.com/).  This splits the RS232 feed from the Davies Vantage Pro 2 and presents it as data feeds on 2 IP ports so both systems appear to have their own feed.

The Weather Display software uploads data from our station to several external sites.

The Met Office gathers it and displays it here

Wunderground is useful for looking at both current and historical data here
